In Prayer and Memorium: Bishop Judith Craig
We are sad to share the news that Bishop Judith Craig, who served The Michigan Area from 1984-1992, died on Friday, January 18, 2019 surrounded by loving family and friends. Bishop Judy was the third woman elected to the episcopacy in The United Methodist Church. Upon her election in 1984 she was assigned to serve the Detroit and West Michigan Conferences. In 1992 she began another eight years service as episcopal leader of the West Ohio Conference. Bishop Craig retired in 2000 and remained active as the Bishop in Residence and Visiting Professor of Leadership at Methodist Theological School of Ohio. A celebration of her life and ministry will be announced. United Methodists across Michigan remember Bishop Judy for her lively wit, prophetic preaching and effective administration. The Michigan Conference is grateful for her leadership and prays God’s comfort for her family in their grief.
