UMCOR needs you on March 31

Cleaning Buckets being made ready for use after storms in the southern U.S.

UMCOR Sunday, a church-wide special offering that pays the administrative costs of UMCOR, is coming in four weeks. Your gifts support the 100% promise.

Last weekend, severe storms made their way through Mississippi, Alabama, Florida, Georgia and South Carolina. Twenty-three were left dead, many more lives were devastated, and property was destroyed. This is the most recent disaster scene that will be transformed through the ministry of the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR).

Nancy Money, the Coordinator of Disaster Recovery Ministries for The Michigan Conference, says, “UMCOR is an important ministry because it allow God’s hope, healing and renewal for people whose lives have been turned upside down by disasters of many kinds.

The UMCOR Network moves into action within hours of a disaster. UMCOR partners in those southern annual conferences are already assessing what’s most needed. Prayers for help and healing are requested. Persons are asked to not self-deploy as volunteers at this time. Click here for a March 5 report on storm damage.

The most supportive thing to do is to give to UMCOR’s U.S. Disaster Response Fund #901670.  Gifts may be made online.

When you do make a financial donation, you can be assured that every dollar will go to the program you specify. UMCOR can guarantee this because all of their administrative costs are covered by the UMCOR Sunday offering and other undesignated gifts. UMCOR Sunday is officially set for March 31, 2019. But contributions may be made at other times more convenient for a local church. March

“Many times after the ‘disaster’ is over, and attention has faded, people are still in need of relief, education and support,” explains Nancy Money. “UMCOR is able to provide that care when needed most.” And it is the funding from contributions to UMCOR Sunday that enable UMCOR to be among first responders and the last to leave. Please give generously on March 31.
