Spring means new appointments

Roadsign saying Change Just Ahead

It’s the season for the Cabinet to announce appointment changes. New Beginnings training helps pastors and churches in their transition. Here are the dates.

New Beginnings, a curriculum designed by the Lewis Center for Church Leadership, will be offered in two venues in Michigan this spring. The training is for both pastors being sent to a new church and for churches receiving a new pastor. It’s an opportunity to learn and share with others about making a healthy transition.

This free training is provided for three groups of leaders: clergy, administrative assistants, and SPRC members. Clergy are answering God’s call again whether going to a first appointment or a new appointment, going from the familiar to the unknown. They play an integral part in helping deal with change. Administrative Assistants know what’s going on in the office and the church. Their knowledge of the church systems assists both the outgoing and incoming pastors. Staff Parish Relations Committees lead the transition and will receive helpful resources to help everyone navigate the transition.

Training will be offered April 4-6, 2019 and May 16-18, 2019, both at Mt. Pleasant: First United Methodist Church, 400 S. Main Street, Mt. Pleasant, MI 48858.  The event is free and includes lunch. Here are schedule details for the participant groups:

  • Clergy:  Thursday, April 4 from 9:30 am to 4:00 pm or Thursday, May 16 from 9:30 am to 4:00 pm. Registration starts 9:00 am both dates.
  • Administrative Assistants: Thursday, April 4 from 9:30 am to 3:00 pm or Thursday, May 16 from 9:30 am to 3:00 pm. Registration 9:00 am.
  • SPRC: Saturday, April 6 from 12:30 pm to 3:00 pm or Saturday, May 18 from 12:30 pm to 3:00 pm.
