Haiti flooding increases displacement, hunger

At least 42 dead, and over 13,000 displaced after flooding in Haiti on June 4. Rural communities sustained significant crop damage and loss of livestock, deepening food insecurity.

UMCOR is responding to the flooding with cash assistance through the Methodist Church of Haiti to allow people to meet their most basic human needs for WASH (water, sanitation, and hygiene) and non-food items. They are exploring a response through other local partnerships and developing a larger-scale post-flood relief program.

What can you do to help? First of all, prayers are requested for food, shelter, and security for all those affected by the flooding.

To financially support UMCOR’s programming in Haiti, send a check to the International Disaster Relief and Response Advance #982450 and designate “Haiti Relief Programming” in the memo line. The Merlet Community Center of EngageMI partner, Haitian Assets for Peace International (HAPI), was damaged. Giving to HAPI may be done through Advance #3020490 or online via this secure link.
