Sturgis VIMS accept mission challenge

We are now entering the final week of the 3-week EngageMI Fundraising Challenge. There’s still time, before November 1, to give gifts that will change lives and build healthy community across Michigan.

October 28, 2019 | LANSING, Mich. — EngageMI Fundraising Challenge is a three-week event (October 14 – November 1, 2019) connecting donors with United Methodist-related non-profits and projects doing good across Michigan.

This virtual fundraising event, sponsored by the Michigan Conference of The United Methodist Church, offers the opportunity for these non-profits and projects to raise thousands of dollars to benefit local communities.

EngageMI is the mission engagement program of the Michigan Conference of The United Methodist Church. EngageMI projects are focused on the wellbeing of some of the most vulnerable communities in Michigan: people experiencing hunger and homelessness, children and elderly living in poverty, and immigrants and refugees.

Any individual may donate. Donations through EngageMI Fundraising Challenge are tax-deductible and irrevocable (donations will not be refunded). Contributions may be made via credit and debit cards only.

In addition, your gifts will help position a project to receive a prize. Participating organizations have access to an additional $9,000 in Bonus Challenges throughout the campaign. Every week a new challenge is open.

As of today $9,832 has been raised from 113 donors. Bonuses have been given to these projects on the strength of those donor gifts:

  • Kickoff Challenge to top three organizations to raise the most dollars in the first 24 hours:
    • Cass Community UMC & Center $800
    • South Flint Soup Kitchen $300
    • Motown Mission $150
  • Week 1 Challenge (Oct. 14-20) awarded to top three organizations to raise the most dollars in the first week:
    • South Flint Soup Kitchen $1,000
    • Cass Community UMC & Center $700
    • Samaritan Counseling Center $300
  • Week 2 Challenge (Oct. 21-27) awarded to the topo three organizations with most unique donors in the second week:
    • Cass Community UMC & Center $1,000
    • South Flint Soup Kitchen $700
    • Motor City Wesley $300

The Final Day Challenge (November 2) worth $1,250, awards organization with the most dollars from midnight to 5pm Nov. 1. Visit the Bonus Challenge page to follow along and see all the winners.

Here are some basics. More details are available on the EngageMI Fundraising Challenge website.

How do I make a donation?

Between October 14 and November 1, 2019, click “Donate,” search for the charity you want to support, then click “donate” to enter the appropriate donation information. The minimum donation is $5. There is no maximum donation limit. The organization will receive the full donation, less a flat rate of 6.9% plus $0.30, which covers the credit card processing and Mightycause platform fees.

If you have any questions or need assistance, please reach out to Mightycause’s friendly customer support team: 202-800-1618 or [email protected]. Only donations made online with a credit or debit card on or between October 14 and November 1, 2019, will be a part of EngageMI Fundraising Challenge 2019.

Who will receive my contact information?

The organization(s) you choose to support will receive donor name and contact information unless the donor chooses to make an anonymous contribution. As host of EngageMI Fundraising Challenge, the Michigan Conference of the United Methodist Church will receive contact information for donors who participate in EngageMI Fundraising Challenge and do not give anonymously. This information is used solely to thank the donor for participating, to provide the option to opt-in to receiving future notifications from the Michigan Conference of the United Methodist Church, and to notify the donor of future EngageMI Fundraising Challenge activities.

How do I get a tax receipt?

Upon successful processing of your donation, your tax receipt is emailed to you immediately by Mightycause Foundation. To claim a donation as a deduction on your U.S. taxes, please retain your email donation receipt as an official record.
