The pastor of Bee Creek UMD in Spicewood, TX, says it’s time to tap the power of the laity.
Rev. Laura Heikes says, “We tend to count pastors or staff when we calculate our capacity for ministry.”
She goes on to share her practical strategy for unleashing the gifts God has given the disciples at Bee Creek UMC. Those tips involve trust, encouragement, service hours, and skills building.
“My church has 575 members,” she says. “If each one gives one hour of service each week, our church is pouring 575 hours into the community. That’s the equivalent of 14 full time staff people, serving our local area, every week!”
