Volunteers from Chesaning UMC restore home of Midland family of nine.
Two months after UMCOR Case Workers, Anne Wortley and Katie Vokal, assessed the needs of the Lacusta family, volunteers from Chesaning United Methodist Church, are at work in their Midland home.
The Lacustas and their seven children are among survivors of the torrential rains that hit mid-Michigan last June. The family has been functioning in half their former living space after their basement–play room, bedrooms, bathroom, and laundry space–was destroyed by the deluge. Read their story here.
This week the Midland Daily News is back on the scene reporting on the blessing the family is experiencing through repair work done by volunteers, including helping hands from Chesaning United Methodist Church.
Vokal reports that 800 households have been contacted so far and that the Lacusta family is one of 50 open cases.
