Traveling with Bishop Bard

Welcome events have concluded and The Michigan Area is now, “On the Road Again,” with Bishop David A. Bard.
Bishop David A. Bard arrived in Michigan on September 1. Since stepping across the border he has traveled many a mile meeting the state’s United Methodists in a wide variety of informal settings.

At the official welcoming events held at Waterford, Kalamazoo and Indian River, Bishop Bard’s leadership was celebrated with poem, song and gifts such as a Michigan Area stole and contributions to the Flint Water Emergency in his honor.

In those worship settings, he, in turn, reached out to clergy and laity in his care in a sermon, “On the Road Again.” After telling a bit of his personal story, he said, “Here we are, traveling this same road as Michigan United Methodists, our stories overlapping. We are now going to be writing the next pages of our road stories with God together.”

The Bishop then described “watermarks that I would like to characterize the pages of the story we write together as we travel the road of faith as Michigan United Methodists.” Those watermarks are joy, wisdom, love and hope.
