“This is no time for happy little Christmas songs,” writes Lenora Rand, a creator of music, liturgy and visual art.
She commends classic Advent hymns like “Comfort, Comfort Ye My People” and “O Come O Come Emmanuel” and offers some new hymns for the season with themes of reconciliation and justice.
Citing the brokenness in the world Rand continues, “Maybe instead of walking through the season in a state of sugar-nostalgia-sentimentality-induced numbness, these songs will help us wake up, ‘watch and wait.’”
