Michigan celebrates the life of Jan Ott

Today the Michigan Area is celebrating the life of Janet Edith Pass Ott, wife of Bishop Donald Ott. The friend United Methodists across the state knew as “Jan,” died on Tuesday, June 2.

Bishop Ott says, “During the 14 days in hospice sitting vigil with Jan, visiting family and friends have all watched a mother robin feeding her children in a nest just outside the window. A few days ago the fledglings, birthed and nurtured, took flight, perched on a courtyard chair, and looked about at their new world.”

He went on to reflect that Jan for “seven decades plus, birthed, nurtured, protected and graced her world.”

Bishop Deborah Lieder Kiesey visited the Otts last week. She says, “Jan Ott lived out her faith in quiet ways, touching lives with a simple word or note.”

The Otts served the Michigan Area from 1992-2000. “Her ministry was alongside her husband’s as they traveled the Michigan Area together,” Kiesey concluded.

A Service of Thanksgiving is set for Wednesday June 24, 2015 11:00 am, with meal and visitation to follow, at the Community United Methodist Church Elm Grove, WI. The Otts have two children, Denise and Duane. Condolences may be sent to the family at S77W12929 McShane Drive D212, Muskego, WI 53150.

An obituary appeared in the June 7 edition of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. Read it here.
