Have RV and love to volunteer?

RV traveling down the road in autumn.

You own an RV. What will you do with your retirement? You can commit to do the Jesus-thing with NOMADS.

With NOMADS (Nomads on a Mission Active in Divine Service), you can provide volunteer service for a minimum of three weeks or be a full-timer. Use the skills you have and learn new ways to serve.

NOMADS provide volunteer labor for United Methodist organizations. They do new construction, remodeling, and repairs for churches, children’s homes, camps, colleges, outreach missions and disaster rebuilding. Team members do maintenance, cleaning, painting, electrical, drywall, sewing, flooring. With God’s help, NOMADS pretty much do it all.

NOMADS began in 1988 in the Rio Grande Valley of Texas.  Methodists from Illinois, Iowa and Indiana were Winter Texans and someone finally said, “I am bored, there must be some good we can do here.”  So they approached local Methodist churches and offered their services.  That first year there were 24 members who completed five projects in Texas and Oklahoma.

NOMADS grew as an all volunteer organization under the North Central Jurisdiction of the United Methodist Church.  Membership grew, and in 2001, NOMADS incorporated and became an organization under the General Board of Global Ministries. NOMADS also contracted a full time program administrator and started offering summer/fall projects in addition to winter/spring projects.

Currently, NOMADS offers about 175 projects each year and has over 900 active members.  NOMADS on regular, disaster and drop-in projects donate a total of more than 110,000 hours of volunteer labor each year.

The United Methodist Organizations/Agencies that NOMADS work for provide a safe place for us to park RVs with RV hook ups (Electric, Water, and some way to deal with sewer). The Agencies plan, organize and supervise the work for the team as well as provide the supplies to complete the work. NOMADS members travel to the project at their own expense, bring their own tools, provide their own meals, and pay for any incidental expenses.

NOMADS is an Advance Special of the General Board of Global Ministries # 982658.
