GAP volunteers serve West Branch

children interact with older adults at GAP

GAP (God’s Awesome People) is a summer program for kids hosted at West Branch UMC. Looking ahead to GAP 2020 … can a volunteer team from your church come and lend a hand?

JODY PRATT
Volunteers in Mission Coordinator, Michigan Conference

God’s Awesome People (G.A. P.) is a ministry of First United Methodist Church in West Branch , Michigan. Looking for a 2020 mission opportunity with children 1st-6th grades? Please consider this educational and fun summer program.

This six-week program, hosted by West Branch UMC, collaborates with local businesses and schools in an inter -generational approach to teaching. Programming is theme-centered around learning experiences and field trips. The local schools provide meals and transportation for the 50-60 young participants of GAP. The program is free to community youth.

The Rev. Timothy Dibble, West Branch pastor, says, “G.A.P., “God’s Awesome People”, fills a GAP in both adult and area children’s lives.  The children benefit not only physically and socially but also spiritually in the positive, Christ-centered atmosphere we seek to provide.”

Volunteer requirements: teams of 6-8 persons are preferred. Volunteers must be 16 years old or older. VIM team members assist with meals, travel with participants  from station to station, help with the WBUMC food give away, and help with before and after program child care.

Dates: weekdays June 22 through July 31, 2020; single weeks are scheduled as available.

Cost: $175 covers all food. Volunteers will be lodged in the church.

Application/questions:  Linda Hall Director, [email protected] or Rev. Tim Dibble , [email protected].

The aim of Volunteer in Mission is, “To engage in dialogue with persons of faith wherever they may live and join together in making the world a better place for ALL God’s children.” This opportunity at West Branch First UMC does just that. Dibble adds, “Few opportunities exist in this area for children’s enrichment during the summer vacation, and many families cannot afford to pay for day care all week, send children away to camps, or other enrichment experiences.  Our program helps to fill the void.  We offer the kids, and their families, an opportunity to experience the love of God in their lives and a pathway to discipleship.” They do all that with the assistance of VIM.

West Branch GAP Kids is a Christ-centered mission and ministry project of the Central Bay District of the United Methodist Church.
