Two conference-sponsored volunteer training opportunities will be held on Saturday, October 22, 2022, at Ludington United Methodist Church, 5810 Bryant Road. Registration deadline is October 7.
Basic Early Response Training (ERT) for volunteers looking to lead or work with disaster teams in the Michigan Conference or other conferences as needed will be led by Robert Freysinger. Certification is good for three years. Those needing recertification are welcome to take this October 22 session.
ERT training will be from 9am to 5pm, with a $35 fee covering materials, lunch, and a required background check. Register by emailing [email protected].
Volunteer in Mission (VIM) team leader/team training will be held on the same day at Ludington UMC from 9am to 4pm, and Jody Pratt will facilitate. A $25 fee covers materials and meals for the day.
Volunteers looking to lead or work with a VIM team for a domestic or international experience are encouraged to attend for certification. Michigan international teams are eligible for first-time participant scholarships and North Central Jurisdiction (NCJ) insurance reimbursement if the team leader is VIM certified. The United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) has issued a national request for cleaning kits (flood buckets) to be delivered to distribution centers. The Midwest Mission Distribution Center (MMDC) in Pawnee, IL, is our designated location. Collection points around Michigan are being confirmed and a news announcement with the list of those locations and instructions for cleaning kit contents will be published in September.
