All pastoral leaders serving under appointment or assignment must complete one Anti-Bias/Anti-Racism Education & Training module by the end of 2024. Two districts are offering ways to work on modules in group settings.

In 2021, the Michigan Conference overwhelmingly passed legislation requiring appointed pastoral leaders, including clergy serving in retirement and laypersons assigned as District Superintendent Assignments, to complete Anti-Bias/Anti-Racism (ABAR) Education & Training. The first module must be completed by December 31, 2024, and the second by December 31, 2025.

Getting Started

Access the curriculum, with its seven modules, by clicking this web link. Individuals are encouraged to utilize the work product created from the modules in their local congregations and share resources within cohorts and clergy groups. Participants are asked to send a certificate of completion to [email protected] and are encouraged to discuss their learning with their district superintendent.

You Don’t Need to Work Alone

Gather with a colleague or a group to share in the learning process. Two districts are offering times to gather together to work on modules in communal settings:

If you have questions about ABAR or specific modules, please contact Lisa Batten, Associate Director for Connectional Ministries for the Michigan Conference, at [email protected].
