Clean water for Haiti

Availability of clean water is a growing concern around the entire globe.
In 2015 nine-year-old Joshua Nystrom participated in the DALMAC bike ride from Lansing to the Mackinaw Bridge, raising money for clean water for the people of Haiti.

Six months later Joshua and others have made it possible for the Michigan Area Haiti Task Force to purchase a number of Sawyer™ filters for use in Haiti.

The Haiti Task Force, cooperating with Business-Connect, the distributor for Sawyer™ Water Filters in Grandville, MI, has discounted the cost of their SP-180 Water Filter Kit. The Task Force is providing five free filter kits to any Michigan Volunteer in Mission (VIM) team visiting Haiti. These kits will be available as long as supplies last.

Before leaving for the mission site, a team member simply needs to obtain the 5 gallon buckets to which the filters are attached as well as “catch buckets” for the filtered water. Teams then pack the buckets and filters in duffle bags for travel to Haiti.  It is also possible to purchase buckets after arrival in the country

Kits include instructions in both English and Haitian Creole.  Each family that receives a filter and bucket must be thoroughly trained on the filter’s assembly, use and maintenance.  Training material is included with the filters.
