The Michigan Committee on Hispanic/Latino Ministries stands in opposition to rescinding DACA.
September 7, 2017 — The Michigan Area Conference Committee on Hispanic/Latino Ministries today issued the following statement.
We would like to state that we strongly oppose the rescinding of DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals). We believe that the dreamers, who have contributed much to this country, should not be in fear of deportation and should be able to have the opportunity and legal right to work, go to college, and to drive.
We also call for a more permanent solution of immigration reform, where dreamers and other immigrants without documents, who have also contributed greatly to this country, are able to receive immigration status. We ask for both the President and Congress to support a just immigration reform bill. The
Conference Committee on Hispanic/Latino Ministries will continue to support dreamers and their families through the ministries we provide, such as the youth leadership development programs, support for Justice for Our Neighbors, and grants to local churches. We call for local churches to support dreamers and their families through prayers, donations to local organizations that support immigrants, and/or by being in ministry with the immigrant community.
