Death for announcements

Stop boring your congregation with announcements and inspire them with “next steps.”

 

“As the Church, we offer life-changing opportunities for people, but they are often ignored, tuned-out, or forgotten during typical and traditional announcements.” So says Phil Bowdle in a feature for Worship Facilities Network.

He says the assumption church leaders make is that, “if it is announced from the stage, it’s remembered in the pew.”

Not so, Bowdle — a pastor at West Ridge Church in Atlanta, GA — asserts. He suggests ending announcements and starting what he calls “next steps.”

“Announcements are information rich and inspiration poor,” Bowdle goes on. “Next steps offer a relevant, clear and compelling call to action for your audience to respond to.”

He offers three ways to make this transition.
