The Council on Finance and Administration (CFA) has announced some important changes to the Moving Expense Policy for clergy, effective July 2, 2024.
The Council on Finance and Administration (CFA) has revised some elements of the Moving Expense Policy. The members of the CFA who proposed and approved these changes did so after many months of research, discussion, and re-drafting. The changes were made in response to our smaller 2025 conference budget. However, the policy continues to address the need to care for our clergy and their families as they itinerate throughout the conference.
Active Clergy
These changes to the Moving Expense Policy go into effect July 2, 2024. They apply only to those whose new appointments begin after July 1, 2024. In other words, if you have a change of appointment that necessitates a move and begins on or before July 1, 2024, the current Moving Expense Policy applies to you, and the revised policy does not.
Retired/Retiring Clergy
These changes apply only to those whose appointment to retirement status will begin after July 1, 2024. In other words, if you are retiring as of July 1, 2024, or retired on or after July 1, 2019, but have not yet taken your reimbursable retirement move, the current Moving Expense Policy applies to you, and the revised policy does not.
The ability to ask for an exception to the Moving Policy has been retained. Please see Part 10, #8 of the current and revised Moving Expense Policies.
