Rev. Gordon E. Spalenka

Rev. Gordon E. Spalenka, age 89, of Wyoming, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 30, 2021.

Gordon was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was a retired United Methodist pastor and served at many United Methodist churches in West Michigan including Holton/Twin Lake; Muskegon: Lake Harbor; Boyne galls/Boyne City; Ovid; Leslie/Felt Plains; Bronson/Snow Prairie; Arden; Bear Lake/Arcadia/Pleasanton; Mt Pleasant: Trinity/Chippewa; Centerville; Bellaire: Community; and Mulliken/Sebewa Center. He loved to sing and be a part of the church choir. Gordon also loved spending time with his family and looking for rocks wherever he traveled. Gordon was a member of the Indian Mounds Rock and Mineral Club. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy from 1948-1952.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Rudolph “Rudy” J. Spalenka Jr.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Nancy (Comstock) Spalenka; children, Peter and Lyn Spalenka, and Joy Martin; grandchildren, Andrew and Lisseth Spalenka, Christina and Matt Nelson, Jonathan Martin, Timothy and Sarah Martin; great-granddaughter, Celeste Olivia Spalenka.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, February 10, 2021, at 3:00 p.m. at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home-Grandville (4145 Chicago Dr. SW, Grandville, MI 49418) with Rev. Dean Prentiss officiating. The service will be live streamed and can be viewed on the funeral home website at www.mkdfuneralhome.com by clicking on the live streams and recordings tab. The burial will take place at Rosedale Memorial Park.
