Rev. Earl W. Downing
We extend our condolences to the family and friends of Rev. Earl W. Downing, retired Michigan Conference clergy, who peacefully passed away on December 6th, 2018 at the age of 90. He is now in his heavenly home with his Lord, his wife Gloria, and his Christian brothers and sisters.
Earl served at Detroit: St. Marks and Royal Oak: Madison in the mid 1950’s before serving in the Ohio and Iowa Conferences. After retirement, Earl led several mission trips with Volunteers in Mission and received their Volunteer of the Year Award in 2002. In the Brighton community, Earl served with the Livingston Co. United Way, the Performing Arts Center and a two-year term on the Brighton School Board. He also sustained his love of the performing arts with acting and singing roles in local community theaters and singing with several community choral groups.
Visitation and a ‘Celebration of Life’ Memorial Service will be held Saturday, February 9, 2019 at Brighton First United Methodist Church, 400 E. Grand River, Brighton, MI to coincide with his wedding anniversary. Visitation, with light appetizers, will be held from 12 Noon to 2:00 PM, immediately followed by the service at 2:00 PM.
