Lake Orion UMC will host its second Special Needs Prom on May 13. Meet Kevin is ready hit the dance floor

A six-year Olympian with the Special Olympics, Kevin attended Lake Orion’s first Prom in 2015.  “It was awesome,” he remembers. “I got see all my pals at the dance. I’ve always loved dancing and I’m excited to dance this year.”

Lake Orion’s associate pastor, the Rev. John Ball explains that the prom creates an environment where those with special needs are accepted and provides a night where the attendees forget they have special needs.

Kevin’s mother notes, “As a parent I feel blessed that the church is giving my son such a great opportunity and providing him with an unforgettable, friendly, positive experience.”

This year’s event promises to be “A Royal Night,” starting at 6:30 pm.  It’s free of charge and includes food, music, games and other fun activities including a professional photographer who will capture the picture of each participant that evening if they so desire. In addition there will be an opportunity for the ladies who attend to take advantage of a “Beauty Bar” for makeup and hair at 5 pm.

Pre-registration is required. Individuals with special needs, between the ages of 16-40, are welcome.
