At the 2025 Michigan Annual Conference, there are several ways to partner with Midwest Mission in their disaster relief ministry. Kits and gently used items will be collected, along with the annual rice meal packing for global hunger relief on Friday, May 30.
Midwest Mission, our disaster relief ministry partner in Pawnee, Illinois, will be coming to Annual Conference again this year and is asking churches and individuals to help them live out their mission to “send tangible resources to those in need to make an intangible difference in their lives through hope and empowerment.”
New Kit Items
Personal Dignity Kits, Home Care Kits, Feminine Hygiene Kits, and various other kits are needed and can be assembled in advance. Please bring all kits to Annual Conference and leave them at the collection truck on Friday, May 30. The truck will leave Saturday morning. Click to review what’s in each kit and collection information.
Gently Used Collections
Midwest Mission is also gathering gently used and new items. They do have a high priority: Midwest Mission aims to collect 1,500 wheelchairs so that every person in Honduras who needs one can achieve independence. They are also in need of foldable walkers, crutches, canes, orthopedic supplies, tools, shovels, rakes, generators, and wheelbarrows. All donations must be dropped off at the collection truck on Friday, May 30.
Rice Meal Packing
With the Michigan Conference Board of Global Ministries, rice meals will be packed on Friday, May 30, from 9 am to noon to send to those in need. Recent shipments have gone to war-torn Ukraine. Each bagged meal contains rice, a vitamin pack, dehydrated vegetables, and soy.
You can give money to help pre-order enough supplies and volunteer to pack meals on the day of the event. Standing and sitting jobs are available in assembly-line fashion. Each $2 pack contains enough ingredients for six meals, so your blessing will multiply quickly. The deadline to order supplies is May 21. Read this article to learn more about this mission event.
Following the success of last year’s event, organizers have raised the bar. Midwest Mission and conference leadership are confident that United Methodists will come together to meet this year’s goal of raising $16,000 and packing 8,000 bags, which would provide 48,000 meals. Conference staff report that, to date, we have met 45% of our goal of $16,000. Click the button below to donate money to help us purchase rice meal supplies for this event. So, even if you are not planning to attend Annual Conference, you can join in the fun.
