Get involved in GC 2020

Anita Hahn at GC 2019

Pages, marshals, choirs, and worship liturgy are needed for the 2020 General Conference meeting May 5-15 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Interested? Here’s how to apply.

Marshals and Pages

United Methodists may apply online to serve as volunteer marshals or pages during The United Methodist Church’s 2020 General Conference. The denomination’s top legislative assembly will meet May 5-15, 2020, in Minneapolis. Deadline to apply is July 31, 2019.

Approximately 175 volunteers are needed to serve as marshals and pages during General Conference.

Marshals are responsible for assisting visitors and special guests in the visitor and reserved seating galleries, checking credentials to make sure that only authorized persons are admitted to the bar of the conference or that of legislative committees, and other duties as assigned.

Pages assist delegates, secretarial staff, bishops, members of the Judicial Council and official visitors. They also distribute approved materials and deliver printed information.

Marshals and pages are responsible for their expenses (travel, food, lodging, etc.). Those interested should submit an online application before the deadline of July 31. Preference will be given to applicants who can serve throughout the entire conference. If you have additional questions, contact David Atkinson at [email protected].

Liturgy

United Methodist choirs, worship ensembles and liturgists from around the world have an opportunity to be part of the worship experience of the 2020 General Conference. Creatives may apply* to share their talents while leading the church body during The United Methodist Church’s top legislative assembly meeting May 5 -15, 2020 in Minneapolis, Minn. The deadline for submission has been extended to September 15, 2019.

Individuals interested in writing original liturgy for General Conference may submit a letter of application that includes a sample liturgy with five-minute devotional, call to worship and prayer of confession inspired by Philippians 3:14. Submissions must include the applicant’s name, email, phone number and local church information. Applications should be emailed to [email protected]

“One of the many strengths of the United Methodist Church is the variety of gifts in our denomination. General Conference affords us an opportunity to experience God in many ways in a central location,” said Raymond Trapp, Worship and Music Director. “When liturgists from across the connection bring their voices together in prayer and celebration, the power and beauty of God is manifested in a sacred way.”

*All submissions, regardless of use by the General Conference, become the intellectual property of General Conference and may be used and/or distributed with the proper citation at the worship team’s discretion. Applicants are responsible for their own expenses.
