Hearing the Call to Ministry?

Ordination 2013

God calls all persons to lives of faithful service in a variety of ways, times and places. If you are considering licensed or ordained ministry as your response to God’s call, you are encouraged first to visit with a clergy leader of your local ministry setting (a church pastor, a campus ministry director, etc.) and then to meet with your District Superintendent to share your story.

Upon receiving an invitation from your District Superintendent, you are invited next to a Candidacy Summit where you will have time to pray, worship, and learn together with others as you take the first steps toward professional ministry.

Candidacy Summits are two-days long and take place in January and July each year. They include presentations about a variety of different forms of ministry, the establishment of mentoring groups for inquiring candidates, and the opportunity to take the required psychological assessment. Overall, the Summit is an opportunity for those who are exploring professional ministry to discern their calls in community, supported by mentors and companions along the way.

Students share in collegial fellowship, worship, study and practical experience, which enable them to qualify for a License as a Local Pastor and service in a congregation. The school emphasizes practical preparation for ministry, and the development of attitudes that will lead to future growth by each participant. The focus will be on understanding the local congregation and leading the congregation – worship and preaching, sacraments, weddings, funerals, pastoral leadership, Christian education and formation, and pastoral care.
