Going green is “largely a matter of attitude” according to one Chicago-land congregation.
Faith in Place of Greater Chicago is an ecumenical effort of “faithful people caring for the earth.”
Recently they spotlighted First United Methodist Church of Arlington Heights, Illinois for their focus on environmental justice.
Their efforts include solar panels, a Winter Farmers Market, waste reduction, and recycling.
Their advice to other churches wishing to go green: “don’t be afraid to start slow. You don’t have to start from scratch – you can get ideas from other churches’ successes. Pay attention to the needs of your congregation, and find ways to meet them.”
