Activities at the Michigan Annual Conference

Two women in a race

On Friday, May 30, you’ll have a chance to golf for campus ministries, move for child hunger relief, pack rice meals for global hunger relief, plus spend Mission Bucks at the EngageMI Mission Festival.

There are plenty of opportunities to grow in mind, body, and soul while at the 2025 Michigan Annual Conference. These activities will be held on Friday, May 30, before the start of annual conference. Explore your options below and visit the main website for up-to-date details.

Golf Scramble to Benefit Campus Ministries

The annual Golf Scramble will begin on Friday at 8 am with a shotgun start on The Wolverine’s back nine. You’ll get the best views of beautiful Grand Traverse Bay. Check-in is at 7 am. All proceeds will go directly to our Michigan United Methodist campus ministry sites to be used for the benefit of the students. Over $6,000 has been raised since the event’s inception in 2017.

The Golf Scramble rate is $80/person for nine holes. $10 for mulligans. It’s a 4-person scramble, so bring your friends, or organizers can place you on a team. This year’s prices include the lowest team net score, closest to the pin, and longest drive. You can register anytime, including the day of the event.

Zero-K for Child Hunger Relief in Michigan

Thanks to generous support from the Board of Pension and Health Benefits, the “Zero-K – Moving to End Child Hunger” event allows everyone, regardless of fitness level, to participate and support this important effort to help children.

A live 5K will be held onsite on Friday at 10:30 am. You’re not a runner? That’s okay! The 5K route will have signs noting your progress, with shorter loops to walk or run any time during annual conference. Or, think big and organize a fun walk/run back home and receive donations to relieve child hunger in Michigan. The event is flexible, and you can participate at your own pace and based on your schedule!

Registration is $35/person and includes a T-shirt. The Board of Pension and Health Benefits has generously covered the cost of T-shirts for the first 650 registrants, so 100% of your registration fee will go to agencies that serve and work to relieve child hunger in all counties in Michigan.

Rice Meal Packing for Global Hunger Relief

With the Board of Global Ministries, rice meals will be packed at annual conference on Friday from 9 am to noon to send to those in need through our mission partner, Midwest Mission. Recent shipments have gone to war-torn Ukraine. Each bagged meal contains rice, a vitamin pack, dehydrated vegetables, and soy.

You can give money to help pre-order enough supplies and volunteer to pack meals on the day of the event. Standing and sitting jobs are available in assembly-line fashion. Each $2 pack contains enough ingredients for six meals, so your blessing will multiply quickly. The deadline to order supplies is May 21. Read this article to learn more about this mission event.

Following the success of last year’s event, organizers have raised the bar. Midwest Mission and conference leadership are confident that United Methodists will come together to meet this year’s goal of raising $16,000 and packing 8,000 bags, which would provide 48,000 meals.

EngageMI Mission Festival

Join the fun Friday night during the EngageMI Mission Festival. Much like a community fair, you’ll have a chance to stroll through approximately 40 exhibits of mission opportunities currently available through our EngageMI mission engagement program. These are solid missions to support and implement at your local congregation. Enjoy live music, snacks, and desserts, and welcome Bishop David and Julie Bard back to the Michigan Conference.

New this year! Through the generosity of the United Methodist Foundation of Michigan, you’ll receive five $1 Mission Bucks with your annual conference registration to spend at the Mission Festival. Give back by supporting the missions you’ve connected with! If you wish to do more, The foundation will match your personal $5 donation with another $5 to spend at the Mission Festival! Registrants will receive a link to donate by April 1. All participating missions will receive their funding post-conference.
