UM Missionaries from DR Congo and Honduras will be in Michigan in September.
West Michigan Conference: Dr. Jeff and Dr. Ellen Hoover
The Hoovers will be visiting their supporting churches September 17-28, 2016.
Jeff has served in the area of education in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) since 1979. He is currently a professor in the theological college of Katanga Methodist University and assists in the library. He is also director of the University of Lubumbashi libraries, a system of 11 facilities. Jeff is deeply committed to schools that can help address the critical needs of the Congo that are emerging after years of government oppression and warfare.
Ellen is a part-time professor at the United Methodist university in Mulungwishi where she teaches courses in Islam and church history in the college of theology. Ellen also directs The English-speaking School of Lubumbashi (TESOL), an elementary and middle school for children of missionaries, full-time church workers and other English-speaking families in a city where French is the common language of instruction. She helped start the school in 1987 and has served on the Administrative Council.

Detroit Conference: Rev. José Roberto Peña-Nazario
Rev. José Roberto Peña-Nazario will be visiting his supporting churches September 19-25, 2016.
José, a native of Puerto Rico, is a missionary assigned as Pastorate, United Methodist Mission in Honduras. He also has pastoral responsibilities at Danli Central United Methodist Church.
As a pastor, José is responsible for developing new churches, bringing new members into the Christian community, developing leadership, and assisting people in the community to improve their living conditions. His objective is to fulfill God’s mission, “making disciples and teaching and putting into practice the principles and values of the reign of God.” Reflecting on his experiences, José says he senses “God’s presence in the practice of spiritual disciplines such as prayer, reading the Word, and meditation.” He also feels close to God, “in the community worship of His people and in the practice of the Sacraments,” as well as “in service to the disadvantaged.”
