View Christmas through Jewish Eyes

Jewish family welcomes Baby Jesus

Clergy and laity are invited to prepare for Advent with a three-week online experience in November, Christmas through Jewish Eyes.

Join us online for Christmas through Jewish Eyes. This three-session, multi-sensory experience combines Bible study, spiritual practices, and large and small group discussions. These virtual sessions are scheduled for Wednesday evenings — Nov. 4, 11, and 18 — from 6:30 to 8:00 pm. The experience will uplift, enlighten, and equip Christian leaders in these days of waning light.

This enriching preparation for Advent is brought to you by the Rev. Rebekah Simon-Peter, the developer and founder of Creating a Culture of Renewal®, the author of Dream Like Jesus and The Jew Named Jesus, and an engaging teacher.

Born and raised Jewish in an interfaith home, an unexpected vision of Jesus later in life led Simon-Peter to seminary, baptism, and ultimately Christian discipleship; a surprising journey which she reflects on in her books.

“It’s exciting to see how Christians are discovering the Jewish roots of their belief and practice,” Simon-Peter commented. “But many Christians don’t know that even Christmas has deep roots in Jewish belief.”

By focusing on three main themes of the season—light, family, and salvation—participants in Christmas through Jewish Eyes will develop a greater appreciation for the connections between the two faith traditions. And gain new insights for creating the Beloved Community.

This experience has been organized by the Michigan Conference Office of Clergy Excellence and is open for participation of both clergy and laity.
