The Michigan Area Program Committee outlines the process that will guide the 2017 Annual Conference held June 1-4 in Acme, MI.
The Michigan Area Program Committee announces that the Annual Conference in 2017 will be a combined session of the Detroit and West Michigan conferences as Michigan United Methodists continue taking steps toward the creation of the new Michigan Conference of The UMC. The conference is being held at the Grand Traverse Resort in Acme, MI, June 1-4, 2017.
The Design Team has a number of significant items that it will be bringing for deliberation and action. So that Annual Conference members may have the most time possible for dialogue and action on these items, these resolutions/petitions will be given priority in the plenary sessions. This may limit time for the consideration of other submitted materials. At the same time, the Program Committee recognizes that the current rules in both conferences allow for these submissions. Those wishing to submit additional resolutions/petitions can reference the guidelines and deadlines provided here:
- Detroit Annual Conference Resolutions are due no later than February 15, 2017. Resolutions and questions should be emailed to Diane Brown, Chair of the DAC Reference and Daily Procedure Committee. Click here for detailed guidelines.
- West Michigan Conference Petitions are due no later than February 1, 2017. Petitions should be filed by email to Rev. Benton Heisler or by post to the Connectional Ministries Office, Attn. DCM, P. O. Box 6247, Grand Rapids MI 49516. Click here for detailed guidelines.
The Annual Conference Program Committee has outlined a process for discussion and amendment of the Design Team materials and any other new Conference business in legislative committees/LEAD Groups as well as the Plenary Session. This process will allow for combined conference voting and, where necessary, the dividing of the Conferences in both the legislative committees/LEAD Groups and in plenary.
The Committee asks for patience with one another as members process what is anticipated to be more than 200 pages of Design Team materials including such topics as Organizational Structure, Re-Districting Proposal, Personnel Policies, Council on Finance and Administration (CFA) policies, Conference Rules etc.
