Training the Trainers Sept-Oct 2017

The Michigan Conference Protection Policy Implementation Team announces the final in a series of workshops for those interested in being trainers of others in the new Michigan Conference Protection Policy.

The Detroit Conference Protection Policy Team and the West Michigan Conference Abuse Prevention Teams have worked together over the last 18 months to prepare the new Michigan Conference Protection Policy.  The policy was passed at the 2017 Michigan Annual Conference and will become effective January 1, 2018.

All certifications obtained prior to September 1, 2017 will expire at 11:59 pm on December 31, 2017.

Anyone with a current certification who wishes to become or continue as a trainer or as a caregiver must re-apply, take the training on the new Michigan Conference Policy, and be authorized by the Michigan Conference Protection Policy Implementation Team (PPIT). That process must be completed before working with children, youth and vulnerable adults at any District or Conference events. In order to make this transition as smooth as possible, the PPIT will offer at least one training per district between October 1 and December 31st of this year.

The first step, however, is to train those who will in turn train others for the Michigan Conference Protection Policy. Potential trainers must possess the following: good public speaking and facilitation skills; a passion for protecting children, youth, and vulnerable adults; a willingness to teach according to the teaching plan prepared by the PPIT; and availability to teach this course periodically as your District or the Conference needs.

Those meeting these requirements, are invited to consider attending the event on October 14 at Gladstone Memorial UMC, 1920 Lake Shore Dr., Gladstone, MI 49837

The training runs from 10 am – 4pm with lunch provided.

Register by emailing Marguerite Zawislak at [email protected] or Phyllis Hart at [email protected]. Or phone 248-649-2396.

Again, this is a training for trainers only. Training for those wishing to be authorized caregivers of children, youth and vulnerable adults will be announced soon.
