Rev. Eric S. Hammar

The Rev. Eric S. Hammar went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, February 23, 2021. He was 91 years old.

Rev. Hammar was preceded in death by his beloved wife Florence L (nee. Anderson) Hammar and they have now been reunited with all the great saints of light. He is survived by his children, Eric (Andrea), Stephen (Sue), David (Laurie), and Judith (William) Sturm; his nine grandchildren, Emily (Rob), Alayna (Yves), Matthew, Dagan (Beth), Sarah, Annalise (Zak), Alyssa (J.J), John, Eric and one great granddaughter, Gaia.

Rev. Hammar was a beloved presence at Brighton First UMC and at all the congregations that he served throughout his ministry which included Stephenson, White Pine, Ishpeming, Wesley, Farmington Orchard, and Northville. He also served as the Saginaw Bay District Superintendent for six years. A service is being planned for this summer with the hope that more people will be able to gather to celebrate and remember Rev. Hammar’s life. Judy Sturm, Rev. Hammar’s daughter, has appreciated all the support from Brighton First church as she and her family have cared for her father.

Condolences may be sent to Eric’s daughter Judy Sturm at
