Mission u North Oct. 16-17, 2017

The 38th annual Mission u of the North sponsored by West Michigan and Detroit Conferences of United Methodist Women will be held on October 16-17 at the First United Methodist Church in Gaylord.

The three Mission u studies this year are:

  • “Mission Conferences of the United Methodist Churches in the U.S.”, a geographic study presented by Rev. Julie Yoder Elmore;
  • “Living as a Covenant Community”, a spiritual growth study presented by Rev. Deborah Johnson;
  • “Climate Justice:  A Call to Hope & Action”, a social action study presented by Nichea VerVeer Guy.

Several workshops provide additional learning opportunities and include: Rev. Faith Fowler on Cass Community Social Services; Randy Hildebrandt on God’s Cooperative Parish in the Upper Peninsula; Rose Simmons on the United Methodist Community House in Grand Rapids; and Della Wilder on the Midwest Mission Distribution Center in Chatham, Illinois.

The Reverend Faith Fowler will present the Monday night program on “Tiny Houses” being built to help provide homes for the homeless in her Detroit-area community. Her program is free to all who wish to attend it at 7:00 p.m. in the sanctuary.

The fee for Mission u of the North is $65, which includes 3 catered meals by Big Bear Deli – Monday lunch and dinner, and Tuesday lunch.

Scholarships are available for first-time attendees and dependent care is reimbursed so that caregivers may attend, also.

Mission u is open to everyone. Men as well as women are welcome to attend. A resource table is available with reading program and study books for sale during Mission u. A free-will offering will be taken to benefit the three Missionary Conferences of the U.S.:  Alaska, Red Bird in Kentucky, and the Oklahoma Indian conference.

An in-gathering of baby clothes and diapers for the New Life Pregnancy Resource Center in Gaylord will be collected at the event.

All interested persons should contact the registrar, Tiffany Crawford, at 989-429-9418 to register by phone or email:  [email protected].
