Member Care Pastor – Midland First UMC

Midland First United Methodist Church is seeking a Member Care Pastor. This is a flexible position working about 20 hours a week. Read the job description below:

Job Title: Member Care Pastor
Reports to: Lead Pastor Key
Relationships: Member Care Team – HR/Administrative Services Director – Bereavement Team – Clergy

Purpose of the Role: This role is of utmost importance as it aims to organize, train, and coordinate lay visitor volunteering, fostering a strong sense of community within our church. As the Member Care Pastor, you will be a supportive presence for our homebound members and facility residents, as well as those who are hospitalized. Your role focuses on providing spiritual guidance and helping the church fulfill its mission of “helping people know, love, and share Jesus Christ.”

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

• Provide visitation and coordinate the Lay Visitors for our elderly and shut-in population
• Be the Leadership Representative to the Member Care Team
• Provide training to the Lay Visitors
• Provide spiritual guidance to the lay visitors and members receiving care
• Provide end-of-life spiritual care
• Visit members in the hospital
• Pray for the church and its community
• Provide communion and services at senior living communities
• Conduct at least two-thirds of the church’s funerals

• Conduct at least three services yearly (Longest Night service, etc.)

Skills and Qualifications:

• Be a person of integrity
• Complete Safe Gatherings training
• Active listener
• Pastoral care skills
• Ability to lead meetings

• General computer skills – updating databases, spreadsheets, and email

Preferred Qualifications:

• Clergy of the United Methodist Church or Wesleyan Philosophy
• Pastoral Care Training or Experience

• Counseling certificate or Stephen Minister Training
