Jeanne J. Kett-Hoffmaster

July 11, 1928 – December 2, 2024

Wife of Rev. Rev. J. Kenneth Hoffmaster, Margaret Jeanne Foster Kett-Hoffmaster, age 96, of Cedartown, GA, passed away December 2, 2024. She was born July 11, 1928 in Knoxville, TN to the late Grady Hart and Bonnie Juanita Morris Hart. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Rev. Lyle J. Kett; second husband, Rev. James Kenneth Hoffmaster; sister, Elizabeth Jane Bowman; and son in law, Richard Schminke.

Mrs. Hoffmaster led a life full of love, pursuit of education, and devotion to her family, her students, and especially the Lord. She graduated in 1947 from Talladega High School with the highest honors. She received as Associates Degree from Detroit Commercial College. At the age of 52, she graduated with a Bachelors Degree from Wayne State University in Detroit and two years later followed with her Masters Degree from the University of Michigan. She worked as a secretary for the Detroit Board of Education for 19 years and after finishing her degrees, taught English and Typing at Osborn High School.

Mrs. Hoffmaster was a dedicated Christian. She served alongside Rev. Kett as he served the Lord through the Assembly of God and the United Methodist Church. She was also a lay pastor and a chaplain for the UMC. Her dedication took her to Israel on two occasions where she was able to meet and fellowship with many other Christians. Being a devoted Christian, she returned home to Georgia to take care of her mother after her father passed away. Here, she was a faithful member of Bethel United Methodist Church and enjoyed working in the Cedartown Bojangles dining room for many years. A true matriarch to her family, she will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

She is survived by her daughter, Grace MK Schminke, of Cedartown, GA; grandchildren, Matthew J. Schminke, of Arcadia, FL and Naomi Jeanne-Marie Schminke, of Cedartown; nephews, niece, and their spouses, Bob and Denise Bowman, Rick and Darlene Bowman, and Donna Kay and John Hoffa.

Funeral services will be held Friday, December 6, 2024 at 2:00PM at Bethel United Methodist Church with Rev. Carlos Lucena and Rev. Tommy Ledbetter officiating. Gentlemen serving as pallbearers will be Matthew J. Schminke, Ray Floyd, Chad Thaxton, Bob Bowman, Cole McElroy, and Kevin McElroy. Interment will follow in Bethel United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday, December 2nd at the church from 12:00PM until the funeral hour.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the funeral home, Miller Funeral Home in Tallapoosa, GA, to assist with their service costs. Donations may be made to the funeral home in person, via phone, or on our website through the Services Tab and Payment Center.
