Courses Offered:

  • Worshiping with United Methodists – Learning Ways of Worship

If you are new to worship planning, you may assume that what you are comfortable with is the Methodist way of worship in all churches; but you would be wrong in doing so. As United Methodists, we are free to adapt worship to meet the changing situations and needs. However, our first consideration is to decide, “ What is worship?” Lay Servant Ministries invites you to a study about the history and foundation of our way of worship in the United Methodist Church.

Textbook: Worshiping with United Methodists (revised edition)
    By Hoyt L. Hickman

  • Lay Servant Ministries Basic Course – Beginning Basics

As Christians, we are all called to a life of service and fellowship with others. By means of preparation for that service, Lay Servant Ministries invites you to participate in a discovery class that will help you understand your calling as a disciple of Jesus Christ.

Textbook: Lay Servant Ministries Basic Course
By Sandy Jackson and Brian Jackson

  • Aging and Ministry in the 21st Century – The Role of Older Adults in Ministry

“In old age they still produce fruit, they are always green and full of sap.” Psalm 92:14

Older folks have much to give the church; and not the least of which is their wisdom, faith and experience. If we want to revitalize the church today, we must include older adults. Lay Servant Ministries invites you to a study about the aging process and how it impacts our understanding of faith in action. Aging and Ministry in the 21st Century is designed to encourage and facilitate a formative experience for you.

Textbook:  Aging and Ministry in the 21st Century
    By Richard H. Gentzler, Jr.

The Central Bay District does not charge registration fees for Lay Servant classes, although participants are responsible for obtaining a copy of the corresponding textbook.

To register for classes, complete your request for training form and email to Janice Buckley at buckley7878@charter.net no later than June 14, 2025.
