Brenda DuPree

March 17, 2025

Brenda DuPree was Chair of the Conference Board of Global Ministries 2018-2022, Lay Leader at Clarkston UMC 2017-2024, a Lay Servant, and elected as a Jurisdictional Conference Delegate in 2019 (alternate/reserve).

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Brenda Kay (Koelling) DuPree, a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, on March 11, 2025, at the age of 82.  She was born on August 4, 1942, to Dorothy and Harry Koelling in East St Louis, Illinois.

Brenda was predeceased by her loving husband of 56 years, Louis DuPree, whom she met at Collinsville High School while playing in the band. Their partnership was a source of joy and strength throughout their lives. She is survived by her children, Dr. Erin DuPree and her husband, Robert Chassin; Jennifer DuPree; Kelly DuPree; Devin DuPree and his wife, Danelle Rivera; granddaughter, Scarlett DuPree Chassin; sister, Barbara Gatewood, and brother, Mark Koelling.

Brenda dedicated her life to helping others. She raised four children, taking delight in every opportunity to encourage and celebrate them; she was never happier than when she was able to spend time with family. Professionally, her love of math and gift for mentoring came together in a 25-year teaching career, where she made a lasting difference in the lives of many secondary students. She tirelessly shared her time and talents with the Clarkston United Methodist Church, through music, committee leadership and service, and a role in statewide leadership with the Michigan UMC Conference.

Brenda cherished social connection and built strong friendships at each stage of her life, many of which lasted until her passing. She loved playing piano, walking, spirited games of euchre, and watching basketball with Lou. Known for her boundless energy and independent spirit, she gave her all to anything she engaged in. Brenda’s vibrant, can-do attitude was infectious, inspiring those close to her.  Her smile brightened every room, and her thoughtfulness touched all who knew her.

Brenda’s legacy will live on in the hearts of all who loved her.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 14, 2025 at 11am at Clarkston United Methodist Church, with visitation starting at 10am.  A luncheon will follow the service at Deer Lake Racquet Club.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Clarkston United Methodist Church in her honor at this link.
