The Wespath New Year’s resolution

It’s a New Year and perhaps you had a change of life circumstances (a new marriage, a divorce, a new child, or other dependent in your life) in 2023 and you haven’t yet changed your beneficiaries on your Wespath retirement account (or other accounts you have for that matter). It’s a great New Year’s Resolution to update that kind of information.

If you don’t designate your beneficiary with Wespath, in the event of your passing, benefits are paid to the default beneficiary. This is usually determined by law and can have unintended consequences – your benefits going to someone you didn’t intend them to.

It’s important to keep this information up to date on all your accounts. It’s easy to do with Wespath. If you have Benefits Access set up, then you can log in to benefitsaccess.org. From the Retirement details page click Accounts > Beneficiaries. Click the Manage Beneficiaries link toward the bottom of the page.

You can also submit a paper form if that is easier for you. That can be found here.

If you want to better understand all that designating a beneficiary for your Wespath account means, please see this page for more information.

If you aren’t sure if you have designated a beneficiary or who your beneficiaries are, it’s a great time to get that cleared up. Let’s update your beneficiaries in 2024! It’s easier than going to the gym and it’ll last longer too!
