Ada is survived by her spouse of 67 years, Reverend David Kidd. Her family includes Paul Brian Kidd, Lansing, MI; Jon Sterling Kidd (Rebecca Thomas), Norton Shores, MI; Marylynn (Daniel) Mullen, Branch, MI; grandchildren Jacqueline Mullen, now living in the family home in Okemos, MI; Matthew (Cassandra) Mullen, Allendale, MI; and great-grandchildren, Leshoo Kuya and Hadley Mullen.
After graduating from the Bronson School of Nursing in Kalamazoo and practicing as a registered nurse in Detroit, Dr. Kidd earned several additional degrees and went on to private practice as a psychologist.
Ada was an avid gardener, seamstress, and gracious hostess. She was a professional piano and organ accompanist and children’s choir director in several churches. She was a longtime singer in the best choirs available, including the Michigan State University Choral Union.
Ada was a longtime environmental activist. For many years, she wrote an environmental column for the Michigan Christian Advocate, the statewide publication of the United Methodist. She was concerned about social issues and led work trips to Haiti and Nicaragua. She and Dave led study groups and taught classes in progressive theology, both at the Bay View Association in Northern Michigan and their local churches.
Ada’s body has been donated to the medical school at Michigan State University for teaching and research. Later, her ashes will become part of the Memorial Garden overlooking the Little Traverse Bay at Bay View.
The memorial gathering to honor Ada will take place on Saturday, April 5th at 1:00 p.m. at Edgewood United Church, 469 N. Hagadorn Rd., East Lansing, MI, 48823.
