Rev. Margaret Wilson, age 80 of Battle Creek, passed away Tuesday evening, September 24, 2024.

Meg was born in Flint, MI on April 18, 1944, the daughter of Raymond and Margaret (Alford) Riggs. On December 12, 2000, she married Benjamin Wilson, who preceded her in death. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Michigan State University and her Master of Divinity from The Methodist Theological School. Margaret was a teacher and Christian Educator in the United Methodist Church. She was later an Elder and Pastor. She served at Alto, Bowne Center, Niles: Portage Prairie, Marshall, Otsego, Evart, and Grawn UMCs.

Meg loved being a mother and a foster mother. Her love for children was seen in her strong advocacy for adoption. In her spare time, she enjoyed being at the lake cabin with Ben, where they enjoyed boating and fishing. She loved knitting and made a baby blanket for every infant she baptized. In the beauty of creation, she loved waterfalls and watching birds.

Meg is survived by her children, Richard B, Cobb, Amy Cobb, Rev. Martin (Jessica) Cobb (Schoolcraft, Pleasant Valley, Three Rivers: First), Paul Peterson, Amber (Travis) Dobson) and Christine Peterson; her grandchildren, Sydney, Zachary, Jakob, Timothy, Colton, Edgard, Dallas, Jazmyn, MaryBeth, Adalynn, Aidan, Kairi, Xavier and Aliyan; nieces and nephews; and countless friends. Besides her husband, Meg was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, William Halls.

A service in witness to Meg’s life and faith will be held on Saturday, October 12, 2024, at 3:00 p.m. at Traverse Bay United Methodist Church, 1200 Ramsdell St, Traverse City, with the Rev. Jodie Flessner presiding. Meg will be laid to rest at Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be given to Traverse Bay United Methodist Church, in c/o the funeral home. Arrangements are in the care of Joldersma & Klein Funeral Home.
