Valerie S. Robinson

March 18, 1949 – August 12, 2022

Pastor Valerie Sue Robinson, 73, died from cancer on Friday, August 12, 2022, at Upper Peninsula Health Systems – Marquette. Valerie’s family was with her. Valerie, having committed her life to Jesus, died assured of her eternal heavenly destination. At the time of her death, Valerie was assigned as the pastoral leader for the Hulbert and Paradise Methodist churches since 2021.

Valerie graduated from Newberry High School in 1967. Valerie completed training as a diploma graduate (RN) from the Greenville (SC) Hospital School of Nursing in 1970. Valerie obtained a BSN at the University of Michigan.

Valerie was born in Providence, Rhode Island on March 18, 1949, to Edwin and Ethel Farnell. Valerie is survived by her husband, James of 51 years and her children Sara Robinson, Erin (Jacob) Fetzer, Susan (Nick) Johnston, Martin (Lauryn) Robinson and Christina (Frank) Magyar. Additionally, Valerie is survived by sibling Edwin Farnell, Leigh Anne Farnell, and Warren Farnell. Valerie took joy in her 9 grandchildren, nieces and nephew.

Valerie served in a variety of health care settings including the University of Michigan Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (Holden), Helen Newberry Joy Hospital, school nurse for Tahquamenon Area Schools and Northwoods Home Health and Hospice. Valerie served most recently as Parish Nurse.

Valerie lived with a keen eye for the needs of others and a heart to meet those needs. Valerie lived with a passion to serve God and others.

Funeral Services will be Friday, August 19, 2022 at the Newberry United Methodist Church at 10:00 AM with Pastors Jackie Roe and Jim Duflo officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Home Cemetery. A fellowship lunch will be served at the church at Noon.
