Soul Checkin

Soul Checkin: Creating an Arc Toward Inclusive Inclusion

‘Opening ourselves to value every person in every moment is being like Jesus. What expressions of your faith are important to you?  What spiritual practices may help you see people different from you through our Creator’s eyes? Together we can create safe-brave spaces to think outloud about everyday ways to open our hearts.  Spiritual practices of preparing us to truly welcome and accept people different from us is a faithful place to start. Explore where you are in your personal relationship with The Divine One.  How might others support you?  How might you support others with your whole heart, thinking self, body and spirit?  The goal is for you to give yourself permission to risk uncomfortable discussions that might catch you off guard, even when they’ve been happening for a while.  Join us once a month to talk heart-to-heart and to check-in with each other.  Valuing each of us in our own spiritual realities will be our path.

WHAT

"Othering" is a common and harmful strategy used to maintain automatic advantage over others. Communities of the God of Love aren't about gaining advantage by making others suffer. Working against biases and racism is a practical starting place for a shared journey of hopeful faith that values everyone. Paying attention with each other we’re more likely to live out our determination for kindness, and humility. Everyone's spiritual strength gets stronger when we care for each other.  Doing this is especially powerful when we demonstrate our faith together. To create fair opportunities, we must also include those who seem different from what we expect or are frequently overlooked. Recognizing these chances when someone else is in need gives us the opportunity to counter the harmful "othering" in all our situations.

We'll be discussing:

  • Acknowledging that I also sometimes wrongly blame others for my own discomfort.
  • Recognizing my own value as one of The Creator's special individuals.
  • Finding spiritual support to act kindly alongside others who are also doing the same.
  • Using the Prayer of St. Francis to connect with interconnected feelings, thoughts, body, and soul.
