Rev. Dr. Robert (Bob) Charles Smith, 97, died Thursday, April 20, 2017 at Clark Retirement Community in Grand Rapids, MI. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy J. Smith.
Rev. Dr. Smith served in the following appointments in the West Michigan Conference and the General Board of Global Ministries: (D-1945, FE-1946, R-1983) Dowling: Country Chapel (LTFT 1/2 ) 1941; Banfield 1941; Middleville 1946; Ovid United Church 1951; Shepardsville 1951; Mt Pleasant: First 1958; Jackson: First 1966; Grand Rapids District Superintendent 1971; Conference Council Director (now Director of Connectional Ministries) 1977; Consultant to United Methodist Committee on Relief, General Board of Global Ministries 1983-12/31/1992; Retired 1983.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 29, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Grand Rapids Trinity UMC, 1100 Lake Drive SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49506, (616) 456-7168. Rev. Edward Perkins officiating. There will be visitation an hour before the service and during the refreshment time following the service. The arrangements for cremation are being handled by Metcalf & Jonkhoff Funeral Services.
