REV YOUNG BONG YOON

Rev Young Bong Yoon, 93, passed away peacefully on July 24, 2018 in his room in West Hills, California. His funeral services were held on Wednesday, August 1 at 6 pm and Thursday, August 2 at Church of the Recessional in Forest Lawn, Glendale, California.

He was born on December 29, 1924 in Korea. He accepted his calling to the ministry and graduated from Sungwha Methodist Theological Seminary in 1949. He continued with further education at New York Military Chaplain School in 1958 and American University in Washington DC in 1969. He was led to various ministries in Korea. He was most passionate about planting churches before he moved to Detroit, Michigan in 1972 with his family. He accepted his calling to serve as a founding pastor at the Korean United Methodist Church of Detroit. He passionately served there for 23 years before retiring in 1995. He then moved to Atlanta, Georgia and continued to serve God as a mission superintendent of South Eastern Jurisdiction.  He assisted in planting 65 churches during his ministry career. He finally retired and moved to Moreno Valley, California to be close to his children.

He married the late Sung Sil Hong on March 25,1953. They raised 4 children together and were blessed with grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sun Sil in 2007. He is survived by Yang Ja Kye, his spouse of last 8 years and his 4 children; Eun Ok, Eun Ju, John and Jennifer and their spouses; 9 grandchildren and their spouses; 5 great-grandchildren.
