Dr. Lester and Deborah Dornon make their home in Nepal. But these United Methodist missionaries will soon be in Michigan to thank supporting churches. Contact them to schedule a visit.
Lester Dornon was born in Japan, the son of Methodist missionaries. He received his Bachelor of Science and Doctor of Medicine degrees from Northwestern University, Evanston, IL. Then he felt a call to practice medicine in a place where people have little or no access to healthcare. That desire led him and his wife, Deborah, to Nepal.
Debbie was born in Middletown, OH, where she is a member of First United Methodist Church. She received a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Baldwin Wallace College, a United Methodist-related school in Berea, OH. Les and Deb were first in Nepal from 1990 – 2002, then returned again in 2012.
Les is assigned as senior physician at the Tansen Hospital in western Nepal in Asia. The hospital in Tansen is a project of the United Mission to Nepal, established in 1954 as a partnership between the people of Nepal and a coalition of multiple Christian organizations from many countries. Tansen Hospital not only treats the sick but also supplies training to Nepali resident doctors and other medical staff. Debbie is assigned as coordinator of expatriate services, assisting personnel and their families who arrive from many countries.
The Dornons will be in Michigan November 3 – 11, 2019. They have one visit scheduled, at present, with the Lowell United Methodist Church. They will be at Lowell UMC on Sunday, November 10.
While in Michigan, they are staying with family in Zeeland. Churches that are a distance from Zeeland are asked to provide meals and housing.
