October 17, 1927 – December 4, 2024
Wife of Rev. Frederic W. McNeil, Jean Meyers McNeil, age 97, passed away on December 4, 2024. Jean was born in Detroit, Michigan to the late Russell and Emily Meyers. Jean attended Denison University in Granville, Ohio where she met her husband, Frederic W. McNeil.
Jean and Fred were married nearly 60 years before his passing in 2007. Jean served alongside Fred, a pastor to several churches in Michigan, New York and Indiana. Jean and Fred retired in Traverse City, Michigan and were members of The Presbyterian Church of Traverse City.
Jean and Fred loved the lakes of Northern Michigan and up-state New York. Jean was very fond of Detroit where she was born and raised. She loved to hear about the city’s latest developments and to root for the Tigers and Pistons among others.
In recent years, Jean resided in Carefree, Arizona (near Scottsdale) and Jacksonville, Florida to be near her children. Jean enjoyed a full life as a mom to five children, a grandmother to twelve, and great-grandmother to six. She was also a good friend and neighbor to many. While busy raising her family, she found time to volunteer in her community and church.
Jean is survived by her children: Kathleen (Joseph) Strausburg, Scott (Andrea) McNeil, Joan (Neal) Cordle, and Janice (Jeff) Gillespie. Her daughter Mary Lynne (Daniel) Haglund preceded her in death in 2018.
