Join us as we prepare others “for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ” (Ephesians 4:12, NRSVUE).
Lay Servant Ministries is a leadership development initiative within The United Methodist Church, designed to equip and empower laypersons who are called to serve in mission and ministry. Participants are prepared to lead, care, and communicate as disciples of Jesus Christ, fostering the growth of other disciples.
If you would like to connect with other laypersons and share your faith and experiences, I encourage you to review the upcoming classes and sign up. Most classes can be taken in person or via Zoom, minimizing your travel time and expenses. Some districts even pay for the cost of the class and materials.
This program is a key component of lay leadership development, supporting intentional discipleship systems and the church’s mission to make disciples for the transformation of the world. The United Methodist Church recognizes three categories of lay service with certification. Review the criteria and process for each:
The Michigan Conference’s Lay Servant Ministries web page provides additional details, including a list of upcoming classes and contact information for district and conference-level directors.
Please reach out to us. We’re glad to help your congregation’s laypersons connect with resources and training that will equip them for ministry in our local churches and beyond.
