Rev. Donald W. Joiner was a dedicated husband, proud grandfather, committed servant, and an accomplished author. He was an ordained minister, certified financial planner, and planned giving specialist. During his tenure with the General Board of Discipleship, The United Methodist Church, he pastored churches in Wisconsin, Illinois, and Michigan; and served as the Director of Stewardship for the denomination, for which he led understanding fund development, planned giving, and clergy finance. In his final role for the Board of Discipleship, Don was the head of the Office of Operations and Fund Development. As a writer and author, Don’s body of work included, among many others, Creating a Climate for Giving: A Rainbow of Possibility, Christians and Money: A Guide to Personal Finance, Securing a Financial Future, and Can I Afford to Retire?, which sought to guide successful and sustainable financial strategies in the ministry.

He has served on the National Board of the Ecumenical Center for Stewardship Studies, the National Association of Stewardship Leaders, and the National Association of United Methodist Foundations. He was the founding chairman of Habitat for Humanity, Hendersonville, TN, served on the Board of Habitat for Humanity of Sumner County, was a Board member of Children Are People, and was on the board of the YMCA of Sumner County. Don has been an active Mason, serving in leadership capacities in all branches of the Masonic order, for which he was coronated a thirty-third degree Mason, in 1979.

Don Joiner is survived by his wife Catherine, sons Paul (Jill) and Andrew, and six grandchildren, Samuel, Sarah Grace, Campbell, Wesley, Luke and Kara (All Joiners), as well as his sister, Sandy Redington, and a host of nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 12 at Noon at First United Methodist Church of Hendersonville, TN. Visitation will be from 10am to 12pm. Honorary Pallbearers include the Poe Williams Class.
