Native American Ministries Sunday is April 30th, a day of significant importance to The Michigan Area.
On Native American Ministries Sunday United Methodists focus on the gifts and contributions made by Native Americans, both in the church and in the community.
Did you know that eight of the 149 Native American United Methodist churches are here in the state?

- Chippewa Indian Mission UMC, Mt. Pleasant
- Oscoda Indian Mission UMC, Oscoda
- Greensky Hill Indian Mission UMC, Charlevoix
- Kewadin Indian Mission UMC, Kewadin
- Northport Indian Mission UMC, Northport
- Zeba Indian Mission UMC, L’anse
In addition there are other vital Native American Ministries: Spirit Journey (Northport); Saganing Native American Learning Center (Standish); and PaWaTing Native American Elders Program (Grand Rapids).
Fifty percent of the gifts received in this special offering stay in the Annual Conference to support Native American outreach ministries such as these. Grants are made that empower Native American congregations to minister to their communities with the love of Christ.
The other 50% of the offering is split equally between scholarships for United Methodist Native American seminarians and expansion of the number of target cities in the denomination’s Native American Urban Initiative.
