Bishop David Bard has designated the 2016 Michigan Area Advent Offering for Haiti Relief.

Grace and Peace to you in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!

By all accounts, Hurricane Matthew is the greatest humanitarian crisis experienced by Haiti since the 2010 earthquake.  An estimated 350,000 people are homeless and there are confirmed reports of 900 dead with thousands injured. This tragedy is expected to unfold for months as Cholera spreads and the total loss of the planting season leads to wide-spread food shortages.

The Michigan Area Haiti Task Force is actively working with the United Methodist Council on Relief (UMCOR) and local mission partners in Haiti to offer assistance to our sisters and brothers there.  The Haitian people will need our long-term support to recover from this deadly storm.

For this reason, I have asked that the 2016 Bishop’s Advent Offering be designated to support relief efforts in Haiti.  In November, you will receive Advent Offering materials that can be used to share this message of compassion and need.  Please make checks  payable to:

  • Detroit Annual Conference with Haiti Task Force – #0861 in the memo field.
  • West Michigan Conference with remittance Report Fund Number 5910 under Conference Ministries (Lane 6) and indicate “Bishop’s Appeal for Haiti.”

As we remember the miraculous gift of the birth of our Savior, let us share a message of support, hope and love for the people of Haiti through our gifts.  Let us bring God’s light to those living in darkness.

Yours in Christ,

Bishop David A. Bard
