Remembering our brother, Bill Quick

A celebration of the life and ministry of Rev. Dr. William K. Quick set for Sept. 21 at Detroit: Metropolitan UMC.

The Rev. Dr. William K. (Bill) Quick, retired clergy member of the Detroit Conference, died Sunday, September 17, 2017.

Visitation will take place Wednesday, September 20, from 4pm to 8 pm at the A.J. Desmond Funeral Home located at 2600 Crooks Road, Troy, MI 48084.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11am Thursday, September 21, at Detroit: Metropolitan United Methodist Church, 8000 Woodward Avenue, Detroit, MI 48202. There will be a time of visitation with the family beginning at 10am until the time of the service.

A voice heard around the world and a mentor to many, Bill Quick pastored Detroit Metropolitan United Methodist Church for 24 years entering the pulpit there in 1974. Upon retirement he joined the faculty of Duke Divinity School, his alma mater.

Rev. Reed Swanson, pastor of Frankenmuth UMC, shared thoughts on Facebook that have been echoed by many others on social media. Said Swanson: “Christianity, Evangelism, and United Methodism lost a giant today. Dr. Bill Quick passed away this afternoon. Bill was a fellow Dukie and was my mentor in my first appointment at Detroit Metropolitan UMC back in 1995. Bill was a familiar voice on WJR’s “City Pulpit.” Bill was always looking to win one more for Christ. His work in building up the church in the Baltic states is still bearing fruit today. The Michigan area is also blessed by the number of pastors that he nurtured over his lifetime. Well done good and faithful servant.”
